Planted some apple seeds when I saw it already had a little rootlet poking out. This is the lone survivor- the summer heat fried the rest. But it has only grown one inch in 3 months. I thought the purslane in the pot was choking it out and blocking the sunlight, so I cut it away. Then it occurred to me: Was the purslane in the pot protectively shading it from the worst of the summer heat? Will it shrivel up and die now that it gets the full force of a southern afternoon sun? We’ll just have to see…
